I was born in Santa Monica, California, and grew up in a military family. Moves were frequent and included a new life in many locations stateside and around the globe. I attended college at a Jesuit university in Japan, the State Teachers College in Lowell, Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and earned a Masters Degree at the University of South Carolina. As the wife of a military man, worldwide travel continued. I have worked as an educator, professional mental health counselor, writer, hospice volunteer and animal rescue advocate.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes” - Marcel Proust.
My love of photography was born through my fathers lens, while my mothers creativity with watercolor and oils taught me a deep appreciation for color and composition. Daughter and spouse of Air Force officers, I have lived in a number of different locations around the world and been exposed to a colorful array of cultures. Life has provided an ever changing wealth of sensory experience.
My primary objective in recording an image is to encourage the viewer to look at the ordinary and see the extraordinary. A shift of light, the spectrum of color, lend mood and texture to everyday scenes. At times, what my lens frames is lit as if by magic and demands instant capture. Other images require patience and persistence.
